Hackmanite and Sodalite are closely related minerals, both part of the sodalite group, but they have distinct characteristics and metaphysical properties.
Hackmanite is a rare, sulfur-rich variety of sodalite known for its remarkable tenebrescence—the ability to change color when exposed to ultraviolet (UV) light. Typically pale to violet-pink, Hackmanite can darken in sunlight and return to its original shade in darkness or under UV light. It has a Mohs hardness of about 5.5–6 and is prized both for its unusual optical behavior and metaphysical qualities. Metaphysically, Hackmanite is considered a stone of inner truth and adaptability. It's believed to help with emotional release, enhance intuition, and encourage self-expression and spiritual insight—especially useful during change or transformation.
Sodalite, on the other hand, is more commonly deep blue with white veining (often mistaken for lapis lazuli but without the gold flecks of pyrite). It is a grounding stone tied to the throat and third eye chakras. Metaphysically, it’s known to enhance logic, rational thought, and verbal communication while calming the mind and encouraging emotional balance. It's often used by writers, students, or speakers to boost clarity and confidence in expression.
In essence, Hackmanite adds a dynamic, transformative energy to the grounding and expressive qualities found in Sodalite.
